Bailey Harm wins sports star award

Allora swimmer Bailey Harm has won his second Warwick Credit Union/Condamine Sports Club/Town and Country Journal Junior Sports Star of the Year award in the past three years. Brisbane Roar footballer Zara Kruger was last year’s winner.

Harm won freestyle at the national championships in winning nine medals. He won three gold medals at the Queensland Sprint Championships and was named male swimmer of the meet. At the Queensland School Championships, he won three gold and three silver medals. He missed a Queensland record held by Cameron McEvoy by 0.05 second in the 50m freestyle, an event McEvoy won at the Paris Olympics. Harm travelled to the Northern Territory for the Australian Country Championships and won three gold and one silver medals and set a Northern Territory record for the 16 years 50m freestyle.

For his performances in the pool, he won two major Darling Downs awards, the Len Bradshaw Most Outstanding Swimmer award for being closest to a national record and the Armbruster Family Trophy for most Darling Downs records - 25 for the year.

In other sports, he competed for Darling Downs in the state water polo championships and made the possibles and probables team for a state selection trial. In track and field, he won four medals at the Darling Downs championships.

Amelia Kuhn won the Doc Bodimeade Memorial Encouragement Award after an outstanding year in cricket and football. She is a regular in state cricket teams with her pace bowling and has started to concentrate on cricket and put football to the side a little.
