Beaudesert campdrafter Kimberley Sammon was “lost for words” after winning the Melbourne Cup on campdrafting, the Pryde’s EasiFeed Warwick Gold Cup on October 21-27 at the Warwick Showgrounds.
The cup final was on Sunday after the event started on the previous Monday with more than 850 entries.
“It is unbelievable to win, my best previously was second,” she said. “I was seventh into camp in a final field of 33 and I felt good during my run. I totally trusted my horse and was stoked at the end and it was then up to the judges.”
The winning horse, SDP Scott David, is owned by Goomburra couple Sam and Sarah (nee Gordon) Campbell.
While Sammon is now based at Beaudesert, she is originally from Charters Towers.
One of the prestigious presentations with the Gold Cup is the J.H.S. Barnes Trophy for the most consistent horse over the week in the Gold Cup and Canning Downs Campdrafts.
The judges were Bernie Southern and Susan Cutler from Karara and the winner Chelsea Peacock riding Condore.
