Less of a splash than hoped

Stanthorpe pool problems

By Staff Reports

Stanthorpe Pool patrons were turned away on Saturday, October 5, before closing time, when The Y supervisors reported swimmers were "cutting their feet on a rough edge".

By Sunday, a Facebook notice appeared to advise: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, our (Stanthorpe) pool is currently closed until further notice. We are working closely with the council to resolve the situation as quickly as possible."

A patron told our newspaper that the issue was "a couple of tiles up" in terms of the roughness of the edge of a surface.

Y staff confirmed this issue and had attempted to contact council, whom The Y lease the pool from, on October 5. Staff were eventually told to close early on that day, by high-level management of The Y.

School and Club swimming had resumed last week, as did the seasonal opportunity for swimmers to make an early splash from 5.30am on weekdays.

Our newspaper contacted council for comment but likely due to the long weekend, it was not received before our print deadline.
